USA Esports announces roster for Nations Cup featuring top players

Esports is getting its own World Cup moment. USA Esports has formally unveiled its participation in the Esports Nations Cup 2026, a first-of-its-kind international competition where players compete under national flags rather than club banners.

The event is scheduled for November 2-8, 2026, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, featuring 16 game titles including League of Legends, VALORANT, and Dota 2.

What the Nations Cup actually is

The Esports Nations Cup, organized by the Esports World Cup Foundation, represents a fundamental shift in how competitive gaming tournaments are structured. Instead of the traditional club-based format where organizations like Team Liquid or Cloud9 field their own rosters, the ENC puts countries against countries.

The ENC was first announced in August 2025 during the New Global Sport Conference in Riyadh. Sixteen titles across the event means this isn’t a one-game showcase. It’s a sprawling, week-long competition designed to mirror the multi-sport format of traditional international sporting events.

USA Esports made its announcement on March 25, 2026. The organization is led by President and CEO Jesse Bodony alongside National Team Manager Daniel Clerke, who are overseeing the player selection process and broader strategic direction.

Building a national team from scratch

USA Esports is collaborating with major esports organizations including Team Liquid, TSM, and Cloud9. These partnerships are critical because the best American players are already contracted to these clubs.

Per-game rosters began rolling out around May and June 2026, with updates continuing as the November event approaches.

The collaboration with collegiate programs is another noteworthy angle. By pulling from both professional and university-level talent pools, USA Esports is casting a wider net than a purely pro-focused selection process would allow.
