World, formerly Worldcoin, has announced the crypto-oriented rebranding and the launch of a new generation of the biometric device Orb. New identity verification options and digital integrations mark a turning point in the blockchain sector.

Let’s see all the details.

Worldcoin becomes World and revolutionizes crypto identity verification with a more powerful Orb

World, previously known as Worldcoin, has recently announced a radical change in its corporate identity, removing the reference to “coin” and adopting the simpler and more universal name of “World”.

This rebranding was revealed during a keynote speech on October 17, given by Sam Altman, the founder of the company.

The objective of the transformation is to better reflect the mission of World, which aims to become a decentralized and blockchain-based identity verification platform at a global level.

During the presentation event, broadcast live on YouTube, many significant changes were introduced.

Among these, a new version of the biometric device Orb, which World uses to scan users’ eyes as the main method of identification.

The new Orb has been designed to be significantly more efficient compared to previous models. Powered by Nvidia hardware, the new version is described as “five times” more powerful, with a more compact design and less complex in terms of components.

This improvement promises to make the biometric scanning process faster and more secure, contributing to increasing user trust in the entire World ecosystem.

All the novelties proposed by World

The news doesn’t stop here. Altman also announced that the new Orb will be available in chioschi self-service in some selected markets.

A step aimed at facilitating access to the service in different parts of the world, especially in areas where access to advanced technology might be limited.

The company strategy thus seems oriented towards a global expansion, with the goal of including a broader user base and simplifying access to their identification services.

Another crucial point of World’s announcement concerns the introduction of new methods for identity verification. In addition to the use of the Orb, users will soon be able to verify their identity through a program called World ID Credentials.

This program will allow users with NFC-enabled government passports to authenticate directly through the World app, without the need to use additional hardware.

This is an important step forward for the company, as it opens up new possibilities for users who do not have access to the Orb device. Thus expanding the accessibility of the service and improving the user experience.

An additional innovation concerns the launch of the World ID Deep Face, a technology that directly addresses the phenomenon of deep fake.

According to what the company stated, this advanced software will be able to determine if a video containing verified people is real or falsified using intelligenza artificiale.

The potential of this innovation is enormous, especially in an era when deepfake videos represent a growing threat to the security and credibility of information online.

Thanks to the integration of World ID Deep Face in popular applications like FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom, users will be able to rely on a higher level of security during their digital interactions.

The importance of secure and decentralized solutions

The announcement of these innovations has sparked great enthusiasm. Furthermore, World also highlighted its already achieved successes. The company revealed that to date, a total of 15 million users have been registered on its app, with 7 million of these already verified.

These numbers demonstrate the rapid growth of the platform and the growing interest of the public towards secure and decentralized digital identification solutions.

The rebranding of World represents much more than a simple name change. It indeed marks the beginning of a new era for the company and for the digital identity verification sector.

With increasingly advanced technology, such as the new Orb and anti-deepfake software, and new verification options like the World ID Credentials program, the company is preparing to play a crucial role in the future of digital security.

The integration with major communication apps like FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom further strengthens World’s position as a leader in this rapidly evolving space.

The company clearly aims to make identity verification safe and accessible globally. Thus offering its users an increasingly wide range of options to protect their identities in the digital world.

With the continuous development of its technologies, World seems ready to leave a lasting mark in the field of biometric identification and online identity protection.
