Arsenal is on the verge of completing a blockbuster transfer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, with the deal expected to land north of £70 million.
The Brazilian midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Arsenal. Newcastle’s asking price could stretch as high as £85 million.
The transfer details
Guimarães, who signed a £41.6 million contract extension with Newcastle in October 2023, currently has a deal running through June 2028, with an option for an additional year.
Reports suggest the final fee will land somewhere between £75 million and £85 million. Guimarães has reportedly expressed his desire to make the move to north London.
If the transfer exceeds €80 million, Lyon stands to collect a €6 million sell-on fee from the deal. Lyon sold Guimarães to Newcastle back in January 2022.
Where crypto enters the pitch
In August 2025, Arsenal announced a multi-year partnership with Bitpanda, naming the European crypto exchange as the club’s Official Crypto Trading Partner.
The club also has skin in the fan token game. Arsenal launched its Fan Token (AFC) back in 2021 through Socios.com, built on the Chiliz blockchain. Fan tokens give holders voting rights on minor club decisions and access to exclusive content and rewards.
What this means for crypto investors watching sports
For investors in sports-related tokens or platforms like Chiliz, the key question isn’t whether a specific transfer moves prices. It’s whether clubs like Arsenal continue to deepen their crypto integrations in ways that create real, sustained demand for these assets. A multi-year Bitpanda deal suggests Arsenal is thinking long-term about this revenue stream.
The risk, as always, is regulatory. European regulators have been tightening rules around crypto marketing, and fan tokens in particular have drawn scrutiny for potentially targeting unsophisticated retail investors.
