Berkshire Hathaway deploys nearly $17B in back-to-back deals on Alphabet and Taylor Morrison

Berkshire Hathaway committed $10 billion to Alphabet through a private placement and agreed to acquire homebuilder Taylor Morrison for roughly $6.8 billion in equity, deploying nearly $17 billion in a matter of weeks.

The Alphabet bet

Berkshire’s $10 billion commitment to Alphabet came through a private placement split evenly between two share classes. The company purchased $5 billion in Class A shares at $351.81 per share and $5 billion in Class C shares at $348.20 per share, with the deal announced on June 1, 2026.

The investment is part of Alphabet’s larger $80 billion equity raise designed to fund its AI infrastructure buildout.

Rather than buying shares on the open market, Berkshire negotiated a direct deal with Alphabet.

Taylor Morrison: building an empire, literally

Berkshire agreed to pay $72.50 per share for Taylor Morrison, a 24% premium to Taylor Morrison’s May 29 closing price of $58.50. The deal values the company at approximately $6.8 billion in equity and roughly $8.5 billion in enterprise value. The transaction closed on July 24, 2026.

Berkshire already owned Clayton Homes, one of the country’s largest manufactured housing companies. Adding Taylor Morrison to the portfolio transforms Berkshire into one of the biggest homebuilders in the United States.

Warren Buffett praised Abel’s execution of the deal, noting that it was completed “faster… smoother” than he could have done himself.

What Abel is doing with the cash pile

As of March 2026, Berkshire Hathaway held nearly $400 billion in cash and short-term investments. Together, the two deals consumed roughly $17 billion.
