Circle discontinues USDC support on Noble blockchain as CCTP V1 winds down

Circle is pulling USDC support from the Noble blockchain and pausing the legacy Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP V1), a decision that effectively cuts off the primary stablecoin pipeline for the entire Cosmos ecosystem.

The announcement, made on September 10, sets a clear countdown: CCTP V1 burn limits will start declining on October 31, 2026, with a complete contract pause landing on December 1, 2026. Noble will not receive CCTP V2, the upgraded protocol Circle has been rolling out elsewhere.

What Noble loses

Noble has been the native issuance platform for USDC across Cosmos since late 2023. It was the bridge that allowed USDC to flow through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, connecting dozens of Cosmos-linked chains to Circle’s stablecoin.

Noble isn’t the only chain getting left behind. Aptos and Sui also remain exclusively on the deprecated CCTP V1 standard, meaning all three are excluded from the enhanced cross-chain transfer capabilities that CCTP V2 promises. But Noble’s situation is arguably the most consequential because of its role as infrastructure for an entire multi-chain ecosystem rather than a single standalone network.

The writing was on the wall before Circle’s official announcement. Coinbase halted USDC deposits and withdrawals on the Noble network back on August 17, 2026, signaling that major players were already stepping away from the chain.

The transition timeline

Circle structured the wind-down in two phases, giving users roughly three months to adjust.

Phase one begins October 31, when burn limits on CCTP V1 contracts start decreasing. Phase two arrives December 1, when the contracts pause entirely.

During the transition, USDC will still be accessible through Circle Mint and popular Cosmos wallets like Keplr and Cosmostation. But the ability to move USDC cross-chain through CCTP V1 will steadily degrade before going dark.

CCTP V2 and who gets it

The broader context here is Circle’s migration from CCTP V1 to CCTP V2, which is designed to improve cross-chain transfer speed, reliability, and interoperability. Most major chains Circle supports are being upgraded. Noble, Aptos, and Sui are not.

Circle is reportedly collaborating with Noble and various Cosmos ecosystem teams on an interim routing solution that could keep USDC transactions flowing through alternative pathways.

What this means for Cosmos

Noble has served as the native issuance platform for USDC in the Cosmos ecosystem since late 2023, propagating IBC transfers across linked chains. Losing native USDC issuance removes a significant convenience for cross-chain DeFi protocols built on Cosmos chains that relied on Noble-routed USDC.

The December 1 contract pause is a hard deadline. Between now and then, every Cosmos protocol that touches USDC needs a contingency plan.
