Derby County is in advanced negotiations to bring Manchester City striker Divin Mubama to the club on loan for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old forward, who joined City from West Ham United in August 2024 for a reported £2 million compensation fee, represents a familiar pattern in English football: Premier League clubs stockpiling young talent, then distributing them through the Championship loan market.
The deal and the player
Mubama, born on 25 October 2004, made his senior debut for Manchester City in the FA Cup in January 2025. His nine Premier League appearances for City yielded zero goals.
That loan came during the 2025-26 season when Stoke City brought him to the Championship. The results were encouraging: 5 goals in 26 appearances, including a hat-trick against Bristol City on 1 November 2025.
A serious leg injury on 17 January 2026 ended his Stoke campaign early. Derby’s current pursuit suggests Mubama has recovered sufficiently to attract Championship interest again, and the club clearly sees value in a striker with proven second-tier production.
