Manchester United’s Champions League fixtures confirmed for 2026-27 season

Manchester United are back in the Champions League, and UEFA has officially handed them their dance card. The fixtures for the 2026/27 league phase were published on August 29, two days after the draw ceremony in Monaco, mapping out a campaign that runs from September 10, 2026 through January 27, 2027.

The full fixture rundown

United’s European campaign opens at Old Trafford on September 10 against Sabah FC, one of two debutants in this season’s tournament.

A trip to face Atlético Madrid awaits on October 13, a fixture that carries real weight given the Spanish side’s pedigree in knockout European football over the past decade.

The marquee home date lands on January 20, 2027, when Bayern Munich visit Old Trafford.

Across the eight-match slate, United will play four times at Old Trafford and four times on the road. The inclusion of Como 1907 as another first-time Champions League participant adds a curiosity factor.

The new format, explained

This is the second season of UEFA’s overhauled Champions League structure, which replaced the traditional group stage with a 36-team league phase. Every club plays eight matches, four home and four away, against eight different opponents rather than facing the same three teams twice.

The top eight finishers in the league phase advance directly to the round of 16, while teams finishing 9th through 24th enter a knockout playoff round. Everyone below 24th goes home, or in some cases, drops into the Europa League.

How United got here

United’s path back to the Champions League came through a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, clinched on May 3, 2026.
