Moonwell Governance submits proposal to rebalance liquidity incentives on Ethereum and Base

3 hours ago 21

Moonwell’s governance arm has put forward a new proposal to rebalance liquidity incentives across its Ethereum and Base deployments, with voting now live for WELL token holders. The move is part of the protocol’s recurring monthly cadence of Moonwell Improvement Proposals, or MIPs, which systematically adjust how rewards flow to lenders and borrowers across its supported markets.

How the rebalancing works

Moonwell’s governance process uses automated monthly proposals to redistribute WELL token rewards across its various lending and borrowing markets. These adjustments respond to real-time shifts in market conditions and utilization rates, tweaking the incentives that attract capital to different pools.

In practical terms, that means the protocol can lower supply-side Annual Percentage Rates while raising borrow-side APRs for specific assets like ETH and USDC, or vice versa. The goal is straightforward: keep the protocol competitive for both sides of the lending equation.

The proposals are announced and tracked through the @MoonwellGov account, which serves as the protocol’s official governance communication channel. WELL token holders participate in voting, with the token serving double duty as both the governance instrument and the incentive currency being redistributed.

A track record of consensus

Recent MIPs, including MIP-X59 (June 2026), MIP-X62 (July 2026), and MIP-X65 (August 2026), have all passed with approval rates exceeding 99%. Heavy participation from the governance community accompanies these votes.

Ethereum as the governance hub

Moonwell has transitioned its governance to the Ethereum mainnet while continuing to support cross-chain functionalities. The protocol originally launched with deployments across multiple chains, including Moonbeam, but has been phasing out its Moonbeam presence in favor of concentrating on Ethereum and Base.

The cross-chain element adds a layer of complexity to the incentive rebalancing process. Rewards need to be calibrated not just across different assets but across different networks, each with its own gas costs, user demographics, and competitive dynamics.
