Theo Le Bris, the 23-year-old French defender and midfielder who has become a fixture in FC Lorient’s lineup, is attracting serious interest from clubs across England’s top two divisions. Multiple Premier League and Championship sides are reportedly weighing moves for a player whose versatility and consistency have made him one of Ligue 1’s more intriguing under-the-radar prospects.
A product of patience and promotion
Le Bris made his senior debut for Lorient back in September 2021, stepping into a Ligue 1 squad as a product of the club’s youth academy. Lorient endured a cycle of relegation and promotion, with Le Bris eventually helping the club earn its way back to Ligue 1 for the 2025-26 season.
Primarily deployed as a right-back, Le Bris can also slot into midfield or operate as a left winger. During the 2025 season, Le Bris went on loan to EA Guingamp, where he made roughly 12 appearances and scored 2 goals. He returned to Lorient and established himself as a regular starter, particularly during the opening stretch of the current 2026-27 campaign.
The English connection runs deeper than you’d think
Le Bris’s ties to English football are closer than a casual observer might realize. His uncle, Régis Le Bris, is currently the manager of Sunderland in the Championship. Régis previously managed Theo at Lorient, meaning the younger Le Bris has already operated under the tactical framework of a coach working in English football.
West Bromwich Albion held talks with Lorient in August 2024 about a potential deal for Le Bris. Those discussions didn’t progress into a completed transfer, reportedly because Lorient was focused on other squad adjustments at the time.
Contract situation and valuation
Le Bris remains under contract at Lorient until June 30, 2027. His market value has recently been estimated at around €5 million. Le Bris holds one cap for the France U20 national team and has accumulated over 100 senior appearances across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
