Paris Saint-Germain have locked down one of their most important defensive assets. Willian Pacho’s contract has been extended through June 2031, a move confirmed on September 4, 2026.
The renewal arrives at a particularly convenient moment for PSG. Scouts from both Arsenal and Manchester City were reportedly in attendance during PSG’s 2-2 Ligue 1 draw against Lille on September 7, evaluating the Ecuadorian as a potential defensive reinforcement. Neither club has made an official bid, and with a fresh long-term deal now in place, any interested party would need to bring a very large checkbook to the negotiating table.
From Frankfurt bargain to Parisian cornerstone
PSG signed Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt in August 2024 for a fee of around €40 million, with add-ons potentially pushing it to €45 million. Two years and over 106 appearances later, his estimated market value has nearly doubled to €80 million.
Pacho has gone from a promising acquisition to an indispensable starter, featuring in every one of PSG’s opening Ligue 1 matches this season. He has been a fixture in a backline that helped the club win back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles.
Why Arsenal and City came looking
Pacho’s profile is particularly attractive because of his consistency. Starting every league match so far this season demonstrates the kind of reliability managers covet. He’s not a rotation option or a project player. He’s the first name on the team sheet at a club that just won consecutive Champions Leagues.
At a valuation of €80 million, Pacho was already expensive. With a deal running to 2031, any club wanting to pry him away would likely need to offer well north of €100 million.
What this means for PSG’s defensive identity
Pacho, born on October 16, 2001, is just 24 years old. His 106-plus appearances already make him one of the more experienced members of the squad despite his age, and locking him in until 2031 gives PSG stability at center-back for the next half-decade. Pacho’s original fee of €40-45 million looks like one of the better defensive investments in European football over the past few years, and the extension ensures PSG reaps the full benefit of that bet rather than cashing in prematurely.
