SpaceX hits 12 million Starlink subscribers as satellite internet giant eyes potential IPO

1 hour ago 11

SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service now counts over 12 million active subscribers worldwide, a milestone reached at the close of the second quarter of 2026. That’s up from 10.3 million at the end of Q1, which itself was up from roughly 9 million at the end of 2025.

The numbers behind the growth

The jump from 9 million to 12 million in roughly two quarters represents a 33% increase in half a year. The service now operates in more than 160 countries and territories.

With an average revenue per user of approximately $110 per month, some quick math puts Starlink’s annualized subscriber revenue somewhere north of $15 billion.

Analysts project the service could reach between 15 and 18 million subscribers by the end of 2026. A significant catalyst for continued growth is the planned rollout of third-generation (V3) satellites later this year, which are designed to substantially enhance network capacity.

Competition and the road ahead

SpaceX itself has acknowledged that growth dynamics may evolve as it moves beyond underserved markets and into more competitive urban territory. The V3 satellite deployment is partly aimed at addressing this, offering the kind of capacity improvements that could make Starlink competitive even in areas with existing broadband options.

Amazon’s Project Kuiper represents the most credible long-term competitor. At $110 per user per month, a subscriber base of 18 million would represent an annualized revenue stream approaching $24 billion, positioning Starlink alone as one of the most valuable telecom assets globally before SpaceX even factors in its rocket business.
