BUZZ HPC appoints capital markets veteran Hubert Marleau as director

BUZZ High Performance Computing Inc., the AI-focused subsidiary of HIVE Digital Technologies, has named Hubert Marleau as an independent director. The appointment, effective September 15, 2026, brings more than five decades of Canadian capital markets experience to a company that’s been on a contract-signing tear this year.

Who is Hubert Marleau

Marleau’s resume reads like a tour through the upper echelons of Canadian finance. He served as Governor of both the Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges and chaired the Toronto Stock Exchange Listing Committee. Marleau emphasized the strategic importance of AI compute in bolstering Canada’s economic sovereignty, framing domestic control of data and technology as a national priority.

The contracts backing the pivot

Marleau joins at a moment when BUZZ HPC’s revenue trajectory is starting to look less like a startup and more like a scaled infrastructure business. The subsidiary surpassed $1 million in average daily revenue.

Two contracts in particular stand out. In August 2026, BUZZ HPC signed a five-year, $350 million agreement for AI cloud services. Two months earlier, in June, the subsidiary secured a $220 million sovereign AI GPU contract with Bell Canada for Cohere Inc.

The hiring of Mark Volk as Senior Vice President of Revenue on September 10, just days before Marleau’s appointment, suggests the company is building out its commercial infrastructure to match the scale of these deals.

From Bitcoin mining to AI compute

HIVE Digital Technologies has been listed on both the TSX and NASDAQ under the ticker HIVE, and for most of its public life, it was known primarily as a Bitcoin miner and data center operator. Rather than competing with hyperscalers like AWS or Azure on price, BUZZ HPC is carving out a niche as the domestic alternative for Canadian enterprises and government agencies that need their data to stay on Canadian soil, leveraging NVIDIA-based high-performance computing technologies.
