What this site does
The desk follows news feeds from publishers, regulators and official project sources. When an event is reported widely enough, software gathers the reports, pulls out the individual claims in them, and checks each claim against the text it came from. A writer then turns the verified claims into a story with a short answer, background, a data section and a source list.
Stories link to the original reports they are based on. Readers can check the claim, the number and the wording against the publisher that reported it.
What we publish

Each page type has its own rules for when it becomes available to search engines. A hub stays hidden from search until it has enough original text and at least one real data block.
