Key takeaways

  1. First outside curator. Sentora is the first external manager to run lending markets on Aave V4, operating three isolated venues on Ethereum through a shared liquidity hub.
  2. Assets on offer. Users can borrow RLUSD, PYUSD or OUSD against USDe, PRIME, mWIN, PST or kBTC, depending on which market they use.
  3. DAO keeps control. Aave DAO owns the underlying contracts; risk-increasing changes face a 48-hour timelock and new collateral needs governance review.

What happened

Aave has switched on the first lending markets on its V4 protocol that are run by an outside curator, with institutional DeFi platform Sentora overseeing three isolated markets on Ethereum. Borrowers can take out Ripple's RLUSD, PayPal's PYUSD and Origin's OUSD against yield-bearing and blue-chip collateral, and reach the markets through Aave Pro, the interface Aave uses for its curated lending products.

All three markets draw liquidity from a single Sentora Liquidity Hub on Ethereum, which holds the assets available for borrowing, but each applies its own conditions. In the RLUSD Yield market, users borrow RLUSD against USDe, PRIME, mWIN and PST; the OUSD Yield market accepts the same four collateral assets and lends OUSD instead. A third venue, called Bluechip, lets users borrow RLUSD, PYUSD or OUSD against kBTC, a Bitcoin-backed asset.

Sentora decides the collateral list, interest rate curves, price oracles and liquidation parameters for each market. Aave DAO, however, keeps ownership of the underlying contracts and sets the boundaries: any change that increases risk must clear a 48-hour timelock, and new collateral assets need governance review before they can be listed.

Why it matters

The deployment is the first live test of Aave V4's Hub and Spoke design under external curation, an arrangement the DAO approved through governance. It lets a specialist risk manager run dedicated credit markets on Aave's infrastructure while the protocol retains control of the contracts and the limits. Because positions are accounted for separately inside each Spoke, a borrower's collateral and debt in one market are not merged with positions elsewhere, which keeps trouble in one venue from spilling directly into another.

The asset mix also matters. RLUSD and PYUSD are regulated, institution-oriented stablecoins, and pairing them with a curated venue gives that kind of capital a structured borrowing outlet inside DeFi. CoinGape noted that Standard Chartered has begun custody for RLUSD and that the OCC's finalized GENIUS Act stablecoin rules take effect in January 2027. For AAVE holders, the Sentora hubs generate revenue for the DAO, although how much depends on how heavily the markets are used.

What the data shows

Sentora says it has allocated more than $2 billion across onchain strategies and builds more than 1,000 risk models into each one; its Risk Radar analytics system covers over 40 DeFi protocols across more than 12 blockchain networks and now includes Aave V4. On the Aave side, Aave Labs reported that V4 deposits passed $1 billion in September with $310 million in active loans, after the September equities market on Base opened with seven Coinbase tokenized stocks as collateral for USDC loans and a $21 million initial borrowing cap. Borrowing costs on V4 depend partly on how much of an asset's liquidity is in use, and the protocol can add a risk premium tied to collateral quality.

Background

Aave V4 separates liquidity from lending logic: Hubs hold funds and keep the accounting for supplied assets, while Spokes set which assets borrowers may post, how much they can draw and when a position becomes eligible for liquidation. Each Spoke receives borrowing and supply limits from its Hub, and emergency controls can restrict activity when needed. Sentora described the launch in an October 22 research article as the first governance-approved Hub and Spoke deployment run by an external curator on Ethereum. The company has prior stablecoin lending experience: in August it approved FXRP as collateral in its RLUSD vault on Morpho, as crypto.news reported. CoinGape also noted that Aave has since taken V4 to Avalanche.

What is still unclear

Sentora's published architecture diagram lists a fourth market, PYUSD Yield, as planned, but its collateral assets have not been confirmed and only the three announced markets are currently active. The reports did not disclose the borrowing or supply caps attached to each Spoke, which will shape how much liquidity each market can actually attract.

What to watch

Another test is pending on Aave's roadmap. Babylon Labs submitted an October 14 proposal to support stablecoin borrowing against native Bitcoin held in vaults on the Bitcoin blockchain; it still needs governance approval, finalized risk settings and security checks. Closer to the Sentora launch, the questions to watch are whether the three markets build sustained borrowing demand, whether the planned PYUSD Yield market follows, and how the DAO handles any request to raise caps or add collateral.

Questions readers ask

What can users borrow and post on the new Aave V4 markets?

The RLUSD Yield market lends RLUSD against USDe, PRIME, mWIN and PST. OUSD Yield accepts the same collateral but lends OUSD. Bluechip lets users borrow RLUSD, PYUSD or OUSD against kBTC.

Who controls risk on Sentora's markets?

Sentora sets collateral rules, interest rate curves, oracles and liquidation parameters. Aave DAO owns the underlying contracts, risk-increasing changes pass through a 48-hour timelock, and new collateral must clear governance review.

Is a fourth market coming?

Sentora's architecture diagram lists a PYUSD Yield market as planned, but its collateral has not been confirmed and only the three announced markets are active.
