Multiply a transaction's virtual size by a fee rate you choose. The fee rounds upward to a whole satoshi.
How the calculation works
Fee in sats = round up(virtual bytes × sat/vB). Fee in BTC = sats ÷ 100,000,000. Quote cost = BTC fee × entered BTC price.
Worked example
Example: 140 virtual bytes at 12 sat/vB costs 1,680 sats, or 0.00001680 BTC. At an entered BTC price of 50,000, the fee is 0.84 in quote currency.
How to use the result
Use virtual bytes rather than assuming raw bytes and virtual bytes are interchangeable. Input types and witness data affect virtual size.
Enter the rate and size from your own scenario. A wallet may also enforce minimum rates, change outputs or other transaction policies.
What this result leaves out
- The entered fee rate does not guarantee confirmation within any time or number of blocks.
- Optional quote-currency values are approximate. No transaction is created or broadcast.
