Work backward from a loss budget to a token quantity. A stop price defines a scenario; actual execution can differ during gaps or fast price moves.
How the calculation works
Loss budget = account value × chosen risk %. Loss per token = entry-to-stop distance + entry fee per token + exit fee per token. Quantity = loss budget ÷ loss per token.
Worked example
Example: 1% of a 10,000 account is a 100 loss budget. Entry at 100 and stop at 95 allow 20 tokens before fees, worth 2,000 at entry.
How to use the result
For a long, put the stop below entry. For a short, put it above entry. Fees increase the modelled loss per token and reduce the calculated quantity.
Position notional is the quantity multiplied by entry price. Leverage changes margin requirements; it does not change the price loss of the same token quantity.
What this result leaves out
- Stops can slip or remain unfilled. Fees, funding, borrowing and liquidation rules may differ by venue.
- Check available capital and margin separately. The tool does not select a suitable risk percentage.
